YES Class – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What  is YES Class?
A: YES Class is a structured, level-based learning program that helps students build strong foundations in math and reading through individualized, step-by-step workbooks and small group guidance.

Q2: What does "worksheet-based" mean?
A: It means students learn using structured, leveled worksheets that teach one concept at a time. Each worksheet builds on the last, helping students master skills step by step. It's guided practice designed to deepen understanding.

Q3: How is it different from other traditional worksheet programs?
A: Unlike traditional programs that focus mainly on repetition, our worksheets are aligned with Common Core standards and include critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-life application questions. We also offer balanced instruction in both math and English, delivered in a flexible and supportive environment.

Q4: What’s the difference between the regular program and the summer program?
A: The regular program is ongoing throughout the school year and includes a placement test to determine each student’s starting level. It follows a personalized, long-term learning plan in math and English. The summer program is a shorter, intensive 6-week course designed to help students review or get ahead during the break. While both programs are level-based and use the same structured system, the summer program is more condensed and does not require a placement test.

Q5: Who are the instructors?
A: YES Class is a self-guided, level-based program, so students follow a structured workbook path with minimal need for direct teaching. Instructors are there to monitor progress, encourage students, and assist when needed. All instructors are selected through a careful and standards-based hiring and training process, and our program director closely oversees each student’s learning journey to ensure quality support.

Q6: What is the student-to-instructor ratio?
A: We maintain a maximum ratio of 6 students per instructor (1:6). Since our program is self-guided and students work at their own level, instructors check in regularly, offer encouragement, and answer questions or provide support as needed. This structure allows students to stay focused and work independently while still receiving help when they need it.

Q7: What is the main benefit of this program?
A: It helps students build academic confidence by working at a level that’s right for them. The structured progression helps solidify foundational skills, while the small group setting offers just the right amount of support. It encourages independence, consistency, and real understanding.

Q8: Is there homework?
A: Yes, optional worksheet homework is included. Students who complete the homework reinforce what they learn in class and are often more prepared for the next grade. Homework is not required, but it's strongly encouraged.

Q9: Is YES Class suitable for advanced or struggling students?
A: Yes! Because students work at their own level, the program fits a wide range of learners. Advanced students can move ahead, and struggling students get the chance to build up foundational skills without pressure.

Q10: Do you teach Common Core or school curriculum?
A: Our materials align with Common Core standards and focus on core skills in math and English. While we don’t follow a student’s grade-level curriculum, each student works at their own level based on the results of a diagnostic assessment. This individualized approach helps students build the skills they need to succeed in class and on standardized tests.

Q11: What makes YES Class different from tutoring?
A: Tutoring is usually reactive—it focuses on helping students catch up on what they missed. YES Class is proactive. It provides a structured, long-term approach that builds skills over time and helps prevent students from falling behind in the first place.
